The passage for today centers on Daniel in the lion's den. Darius, the king, is tricked into putting Daniel in the lion's den, but God miraculously delivers him.
Read Daniel 6.
All men of God are men of prayer. Though we wrestle with prayer, things we don't understand, things we don't know, nevertheless, when all is said and done, in the Scripture, all men of God are men of prayer. From Daniel we learn a number of instructive things. Daniel prays three times a day (6:13). Certainly he must have prayed at other times, but he sets aside three times a day for prayer, even though he is exceedingly busy, one of the primary rulers of the land. His prayer includes giving thanks (6:10) and petition and supplication (6:11); that is, he asks God for things for himself and others. If our prayer reflects the commitment and balance of Daniel's, our relationship with the Lord will be a growing one.
1. Praise: Offer your praise to the Lord, who encourages your prayer, hears, and answers according to His will:
Tremble before Him, all the earth. The world also is firmly established, it shall not be moved. Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad.. . . Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever . . . Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting! (1 Chronicles 16:30-31, 34, 36)
Now offer to the Lord your personal praise and thanksgiving. 2. Confession: Pray this confession to the Lord as you seek to keep your life free from sin and in fellowship with Him:
You have blotted out, like a thick cloud, my transgressions, and like a cloud, my sins. I will return to You, for You have redeemed me. (Isaiah 44:22)
Confess any personal sins which the Holy Spirit brings to your mind.
3. Affirmation: As you agree with God's will, voice your affirmation of His word:
The Spirit also helps me in weaknesses. For I do not know what I should pray for as I ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for me with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26)
4. Requests: As you make your requests known to the Lord, include:
5. Closing Prayer: Finally, offer this closing prayer to the Lord:
Make me complete in every good work to do Your will, working in me what is well pleasing in Your sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever Amen. (Hebrews 13:21)
