We have been translating the Limos Kalinga New Testament since 1980, and we finished the translation in January 2004. It came off the press in May and was dedicated on June 26, 2004. In the course of Bible translation the Lord opened up opportunities for us to share our faith and minister to the Limos Kalinga people by sharing, as much as we were able, of our resources to meet their needs. One ministry we had for the Limos Kalinga people when we lived in Tabuk, the capital of the province, was that we invited high school and college students for an overnight on Friday nights. They would come for supper and leave after breakfast the next day. These were students who came from far villages and lived in boarding houses. After supper we had a Bible study and after that we had games. One of those who came to know the Lord through that Bible Study is Connie, who after college, came and helped us finished the translation of the New Testament into her own language. In 1997 the Lord put it on our hearts that we needed to reach out to the young people, and during prayer He impressed on Bel that we should have Bible camps to accomplish this. Camps have been held in 1998,1999, 2001 and 2005. Over 200 Limos Kalingas have accepted Jesus Lord and Savior through the camps.
Our current work is to manage the 64 bed dormitory that houses Asian nationals who are taking training in Bible translation at the Northern Translation Center at Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. Bel also is in charge of Bagabag Center housing. She is responsible for preparing homes for missionaries returning from village assignments, those coming for workshops, short term visitors, and new missionaries arriving for assignments. She has two national employees working with her and Fred helps with repairs. Fred also works on wireless communication maintenance keeping satphones, two-way radios, avionics equipment, and the radio antennas in good repair.
Fred and Bel are currently on furlough which began June 13, 2005.
They have a son, Paul.
