Speaker Lauren and her husband, Larry, have been married 23 blissful years, and she looks forward to growing old with him. There’s not been a dull moment yet! Lauren delights in being Larry’s wife and loves spending time with family and friends, especially in the kitchen and over meals. Any free time is spent outside - biking, kayaking or doing anything active.
Lauren was asked to be the director of women’s ministries at Grace Community Church about a year and a half ago – overseeing all the bible studies, retreats and special events for the women at Grace, including the Spanish and Korean women’s ministries. Another responsibility is to develop and maintain relationships with women leading their ministries at churches in the Southern California area.
Lauren was a reporter with CNN before she left several years ago to care for her family. She now works for a non-profit organization that focuses on economic public policy, and also freelances as a reporter and voice-over artist.
Lauren and her husband have been members at Grace Community Church since 1982. In addition to working with women’s ministries, she helps coordinate volunteers for Grace Church’s annual Shepherds’ Conference. Lauren and her husband are also involved with outreach evangelism, participating each summer on short-term missions teams, and have worked with high school students and staff for more than twenty years.
Daily discipline and discipleship are central to Lauren’s spiritual life, and one of her favorite passages in Scripture in Psalm 121, which became very personal to her as a new believer, and continues to strengthen and encourage her. "I will lift up my eyes to the mountains, where my help comes from. My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip. He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The Lord will protect you from all evil, He will guard your soul. The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in, from this time forth and forever."
